Lady Bison Fight Off Bearcats, 7-2
SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist didn't rest on their laurels Monday, scoring a 7-2 win over Northwest Missouri State in the Lady Bison's first match since moving to second in the Central Region poll.
"You think about that as a coach and how they're going to handle it now that they're ranked high," said Coach Peter McCorkle. "And it's the same as always. We didn't talk about it much and they just came out and played well. I thought Northwest Missouri played really hard and our girls were ready for that."
OBU won quickly at No. 1 doubles with Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg and Kim Moosbacher taking an 8-0 win, but it looked as though OBU might be down 2-1 after doubles.
Oliva Charvat and Madeleine Boepple were down 5-2 before taking the next five games and eventually winning 8-6.
The Lady Bison then scored five straight set singles wins by Janse van Rensburg, Moosbacher, Boepple, Alex Bowers and Alex Morales.
The win extended OBU's win streak to 14 matches and improved its record to 14-1. The Lady Bison return to action at 10 a.m. Saturday with a home match against Midwestern State.
