McLOUD — The Wildcats of Bethel jumped out to a 9-0 lead after four innings and held off McLoud 12-8 Monday.

Bethel tallied five runs in the second and four runs in the fourth en route to upping its record to 8-17.

Starting Bethel pitcher Ryan May, who went the first 4 1/3 innings, was credited with the victory. He surrendered five hits, fanned one and walked five. Reliever Clint Fitzgerald, in a 2 2/3-inning stint, permitted seven hits, whiffed three and walked three.

Bethel concluded with 11 hits as Josh Elmore went 3 of 4 — two doubles and a single.

Teammate Andrew Barr was 2 of 3 with a triple and single. Cameron Edgar also had a three-bagger as the teams met for the first time this season.

McLoud, which finished with 10 hits, received two doubles, a single and one RBI from Zac Green. Wyatt Olds was 3 of 4, all singles, while Trayce Abbott was 2 of 4, both singles, and drove in three runs.

Abbott suffered the pitching loss after giving up seven hits, nine runs and striking out seven in five innings.

The two teams will meet again today at 4:30 at Bethel.

Bethel will launch Okmulgee Tournament play at 11 a.m. Thursday against Glenpool.

McLoud (12-14) will open Byng Tournament play at 11 a.m. Thursday versus Latta.
