OKLAHOMA CITY- The Cavaliers (27-17, 10-8 SAC) made a big statement on Thursday night, with a 2-1 win over the No. 1 Oklahoma City University Stars (40-7, 17-2 SAC. This is just just the second time in program history that the Cavs have taken down the nation's top ranked team, and it is also only the second time that they have ever beaten OCU. Coincidently, those two feats were done on the same day back on April 5, 2002, when the Cavaliers beat the No. 1 Stars.

Matt Oxner (JR/San Jose, Calif.) led St. Gregory's with a stellar pitching performance. Oxner went all 9 innings, allowing just one run on eight hits, and he struck out 8 batters. Oxner was given the 2-0 lead in the top of the eighth inning, on a two-out, two-run infield single by Ryan Lujan-Leonard (FR). Jordan Martin (SR/Moore, Okla.) scored from third base, and Armando Fajardo (JR/San Mateo, Calif.) hustled home from second base. The only run that Oxner gave up was in the bottom of the ninth, when the Stars had bases loaded with two outs, but the Senior pitcher was able to work his way out of the jam with a strike out. The victory improves Oxner's record to 6-2 on the season, and he gives the Cavs their biggest win in 15 years.

Lujan-Leonard picked up the biggest hit on the night for the Cavs, and he also collected two RBI's. Armando Fajardo went 1-4 with a double, to go with singles from Jordan Martin, Joseph Melchor (SO/Redondo Beach, Calif.), and Connor Parsells (SR/Oklahoma City, Okla.).

SGU and OCU will pick back up on Saturday, April 22, when they play a double-header at St. Gregory's. The double-header is set to start at 1 PM.
