McLOUD — McLoud shook off a 6-3 loss to Little Axe to whip the Indians 11-2 and claim a Class 5A district tournament crown Thursday.

McLoud went 3-1 on the day, also defeating Riverside 8-4 and Little Axe 6-2 in its first two matchups.

After being limited to seven hits in the 6-3 setback, McLoud outhit the visitors 14-3 in the deciding game of the day.

Karlee Higdon and Makayna Higdon contributed three singles each in the clinching win. Amber Cribbs scored twice off a double and single. She also drove in two runs.

McLoud led 11-0 before Little Åxe scored in the bottom of the sixth.

Opposite Riverside, Katelyn Hoover recorded three hits, including at triple, and drove in three runs. Cribbs posted a double and two singles.

Callie Cardin scored four times off a triple, single and two walks. Destiny Burge had a triple, single and drove in two runs. Rachelle Stephens added a double.

By improving its record to 16-13-1, McLoud advanced to next week’s regionals. McLoud coach J.D. Widner said he is trying to schedule a game for Monday. The Lady Redskins will likely play at Davis Tuesday in a 1 p.m. varsity game.
