SHAWNEE – The first full day of action in the 25th annual International Finals Youth Rodeo is in the books. Competitors from throughout the globe continued to compete in the first go Monday that will extend through tonight.
In the barrel racing event, Elizabeth Broussard of Estherwood, LA led the pack with a time of 16.326 Monday morning followed by Amber Scales of Pittsburg, KS At 16.479.
Paige Jones from Wayne, OK led the way in the pole bending competition after posting a time of 20.375 Monday morning. Taylor Algrim of Blackwell, OK put up a 20.456 for second.
Winter Williams of Copan, OK took the lead in breakaway roping with a 2.1 second performance Monday night to drop Kody Hoss of La Junta, CO down to second.
In the goat tying competition, Faith Hoffman retained her 6.9 second lead and Karissa Rayhill of Martin, SD put up a 7.2 for second.
Ty Harris of San Angelo, TX stole the first place spot away from Canyon, Texas' Quade Hiatt in calf roping Monday night. Hiatt put up a time of 8.5 seconds Sunday night but was eclipsed by Harris' time of 7.8 on Monday.
Connor Gentry (Pleasanton, KS) narrowly held onto his first place time of 4-flat through Monday night's first go of steer wrestling action. Chase Graves (Poplarville, MS) almost caught him, but finished with a time of 4.1 to just miss the tie.
In the saddle bronc, Stetson Wright of Milford, Utah held on for a score of 83.5 Sunday night and easily maintained the lead through Monday. Will Pollock (Utopia, TX) put up a 66.5 for second, Logan Kenline (Penrose, CO) held third and Taylor Russell (Lipscomb, TX) earned fourth. The other 17 competitors through Monday failed to score on their runs.
The bareback bronc saw better results, with five of the 11 contestants putting up points. Jesse Pope of Garnett, KS led the way with a score of 81 and Hunter Ramsey of El Dorado, AR held a 73.5 for second.
Stetson Wright of Milford, UT put up an 83.5 in the bull riding while Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, NY) had an 81.5 as the only two to score through Monday night.
Logan Graham and Cash Davis from Winthrop, AR put up a time of 5.8 to lead team roping through Monday night trailed by the Oklahoma team of Stran Morris (Woodward) and Jessen James (Moyers) with a time of 6.5.
The first go will conclude today with the morning performance beginning at 9 and the evening portion starting at 7:30.
