SHAWNEE – Former Oklahoma Baptist pitchers had some impressive minor league outings in the last seven days.
Taylor Hearn, rated the Pittsburgh Pirates' No. 10 prospect, fanned a career-best 10 batters in 4.2 innings of work in a no decision for the Bradenton Marauders (Advanced A) against Clearwater (Philadelphia Phillies). Hearn walked no batters and allowed four hits and no runs. For the season, he is 4-6 with a 4.12 earned run average and 106 strikeouts in 87.1 innings.
Julian Merryweather, in his second outing since a stint on the disabled list, threw four innings of one-hit shutout baseball for the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians AAA) in a game at Toledo (Detroit Tigers). He struck out six and walked no one. Since being re-activated, Merryweather has pitched seven innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight. For the year, Merryweather is 7-3 with a 3.71 earned run average and 86 strikeouts in 87.1 innings.
Nathan Thompson struck out seven batters in 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros Short Season A) against Batavia (Miami Marlins). Thompson this season is 0-0 with a 1.56 earned run average. He has 28 strikeouts in 17.1 innings – all in relief.
Matthew Page, first baseman for the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals Advanced A), is batting .239 this season with two home runs and eight RBI in 43 games.
