DALE — Spurred by a six-run first inning, Oktaha upended Asher 13-3 Thursday in opening-round action of the Dale Tournament.

The game was stopped after five innings on the run rule.. Oktaha scored four runs in the top of the fifth.

Asher collected seven hits with Braden Sanders, Jake Dobbs and Trevor Martin posting two hits apiece. Sanders had an RBI double in the first inning as Asher scored twice. Asher’s other run came in the third.

Martin, the losing pitcher, surrendered seven runs and eight hits in three innings. He fanned four and walked four.

Asher, 1-1, will continue tournament play at 12:30 p.m. today against the loser of a Thursday game between Latta and Tushka.

Should Asher win today, it would see further tournament action Saturday. With a loss today, Asher would be eliminated from the tourney.

Coach Shane Coker’s Asher squad will travel to Byng Monday, then visit Varnum Tuesday.
