OKTAHA — Class A third-ranked Dale grabbed an 8-3 lead after four innings and held off No. 1 Oktaha 8-6 Tuesday.
Dale, 12-3, avenged an 11-7 loss to Oktaha at the Roff Tournament.
Sophomore Jaxson Wright started on the mound for Dale, but was relieved by Drew Reed after issuing three first-inning walks.
Reed, who was credited with pitching all seven innings, was touched for 11 hits. He fashioned four strikeouts and walked two.
“Drew threw really well,” Dale coach Jerry Sanford said.
Dale accumulated eight hits with Bryce Crawford leading the way with two doubles and three runs batted in.
David Herring went 2 for 3 with a double and Gant Hathcock went 2 for 3 with two singles.
Scout Capps recorded a run-scoring single in the first and Reed knocked in a run with a fourth inning single.
“We didn’t play our best game and we still won,” Sanford said. “We have a lot of things to clean up. We can’t walk people.
“We can play a lot better, but Oktaha is a really good team.”
Dale, 12-3, will travel to Byng Thursday for a 4:30 matchup. Friday, Dale will entertain Latta at 4:30. The Pirates will be off Saturday.
