VARNUM — Twenty-one and counting.
Dale, behind a 14-hit attack, pushed its record to 21-0 Tuesday with a 7-1 victory over Class B sixth-ranked Varnum.
Mikayla Rutland led the hitting barrage with a single, double and triple. She drove in three runs.
Four members of coach Andy Powell’s victors — London Calvillo, Delanie Manning, Rylie Premo and Kaylee Lawson — managed two hits apiece. Manning and Premo posted a double apiece.
Manning also had three runs batted in.
Dale led just 2-1 after four innings but netted four runs in the top of the fifth.
Premo, the winning pitcher, surrendered five hits, whiffed one and walked two. Varnum’s run came in the fourth. Premo is 5-0.
“We played well,” Powell said. “We hit a lot of balls hard. Varnum is a good Class B squad.”
Dale will compete Thursday in the McLoud Tournament. Powell’s troops will play Meeker at 11:30, Okemah at 5:30 and Bethel at 7. All of those games are scheduled for Dale’s field.
