PRAGUE- The Prague Red Devils fought through four quarters filled with penalties and timeouts against Luther, but ended up just short at 39-37 on Friday night.
"Luther's a heck of a team- they score a lot of points," coach John Graham said. "We gave up 33 points in the first half and only one touchdown in the second, and I couldn't be more proud of our guys for fighting back."
The Lions outscored the Devils 33-22 in the first half of play, but Prague fought back in the last half on a strong comeback attempt. A last-second pass from senior quarterback Elway Farriell tempted an upset, but was caught by a Luther defender in the zone.
Farriell went 10-25 for 154 passing yards on the night, including two touchdown tosses to Jake Schultz.
Calvin Boyce shined for the Red Devils, rushing for 212 yards on the night, including a 29-yard drive in the last three minutes of play and two touchdowns.
Schultz also scored twice, as Branom Bailey scored on two two-point conversions and an interception return for a touchdown.
Defensively, Austin Chesser recorded six tackles on the night, followed by several Devils at three. Schultz grabbed two interceptions joined by Bailey who stole one.
"We had some guys get dinged up and had secondary step up in their places," Maly said.
"I don't like the result, I wish it was more in our hands but I'm extremely proud of my guys and their push tonight."
Prague returns to action next Friday at Cashion for a 7:30 kickoff for the Touchdown Against Cancer games.
