MCLOUD – The McLoud Redskins were unable to keep their unbeaten streak alive, as they fell to Perkins-Tryon 49-21 at home Friday night.
“I told them we couldn't come out like last week and commit penalty after penalty,” coach Rusty Hall said. “We had a couple possessions in the first half where we were driving and gave up two interceptions and downed out twice. In order to win games we need to be disciplined on both sides of the ball.”
Perkins-Tryon's Blake Beal took the opening kickoff for a touchdown and after an extra point, the Demons led 7-0.
McLoud's first drive resulted in a three and out. On the Redskin's second possession they recorded a first down on the first play of the drive as Damien Dye scampered for 13 yards. The next three plays resulted in a fourth and short and Dye was stopped in the backfield for a three yard loss, resulting in a turnover around mid field.
On the Demon's next possession quarterback Austin Mages hooked up with Chad Black for a 15-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good and Perkins-Tryon led 13-0.
Mages would add a 39-yard touchdown on the Demon's next possession and after the two point conversion, Perkins-Tryon led 21-0
McLoud finally got on the board in the second quarter when Braxton Hall made a play with his legs, scoring from 43-yards out. After the extra point was added by Hunter Ryan, McLoud trailed 21-7.
The Demon's scoring assault continued with a 36-yard touchdown from Mages to Black to give the visiting team a 28-7 lead.
Perkins-Tryon added another touchdown before halftime and led 31-7.
The Demons would score on their first possession of the second half, when Mages scampered in from three yards.
During McLoud's second possession of the second half, Braxton Hall threw his third interception of the game, which was returned for a touchdown, putting the game all but out of reach with a 43-7 lead.
McLoud did not give up and on the ensuing drive, Braxton Hall connected with Dye on a 15-yard touchdown.
The Redskins started to put in reserves and Logan Wheat took it to the house on a 44-yard run.
Braxton Hall completed 10 of 14 passes for 64 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Hall also chipped in 96 yards and a rushing touchdown.
McLoud's leading rusher Dye went for 49 yards on 15 carries. Dye also hauled in a touchdown through the air.
Campbell recorded four receptions for 42 yards in the loss.
Next week McLoud will travel to Tecumseh. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
