MCLOUD – In her final home game as a Lady Redskin, Karlee Higdon cleared the bases with a homer, her second of the season, helping the Lady Redskins to an 11-1 win over Bethany Tuesday night.
“Closing out games has been a problem for us lately,” coach Chance Griffin said. “We needed one more run to close the game out and the girls came out and did that. I'm so proud of their effort tonight.”
Bethany led off the top of the first with a run, on a Rhyan Finley single that scored Madi Ward.
The Lady Redskins answered right back in the bottom half of the first inning, with a Callie Cardin single. Katelyn Hoover advanced Cardin to second. Shyann Shipman drove Cardin in to tie the game.
McLoud kept up the momentum in the bottom of the second with a McKyna Higdon leadoff double. Dallas Childers drove in Higdon on a double to make it 2-1. Rylee Walker recorded a double and scored Childers and Higdon cleared the bases with a homer, extending McLoud's lead to 5-1.
“For us it's a ripple effect,” Griffin said. “One girl gets a hit and the next girl up tries to one up her, in a good way and tonight that translated into the win.”
In the third, Lexie Boyer reached on a single and Childers brought her home on a triple, bringing the Lady Redskins' lead to 6-1.
It was more McLoud in the fourth inning as Cardin and Hoover each reached on singles and Shipman brought them home on a double making it 8-1 in favor of the Lady Redskins. Boyer scored Shipman on a single and Childers drove in her second run of the game and McLoud took a 10-1 lead.
Cardin led the Lady Redskins, going 3-3 with two singles, two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. Childers recorded two hits and three RBI. Shipman also added three RBI on two hits..
McLoud (16-17, 4-7 in District 4A-1) will have a district contest at Chickasha (6-5 in 4A-1) Thursday at 5.
