ASHER — A dominating pitching performance by sophomore Trevor Martin spurred Asher to an 8-2 victory over Glencoe in a district tournament championship game Friday.
Of Glencoe’s 21 outs, 17 came via strikeouts. Martin, who committed to Oklahoma State two weeks ago, struck out the side in the first, second and seventh innings.
“Watching him throw, his velocity was actually under average,” Asher coach Shane Coker said. “But he hit his spots well. That was the quietest 17 strikeouts I’ve seen in my life.”
Martin gave up two singles in going the distance. He threw 110 pitches.
Asher compiled eight hits with Jake Dobbs registering a run-scoring double. Dylan Williamson also doubled.
Eight of Asher’s nine starters got in the hit column.
Asher launched the district tournament Thursday with victories over Paden (14-2) and New Lima (10-0).
Jayse Beverage earned the pitching win opposite Paden. Braden Sanders defeated New Lima.
Asher will take a 10-11 record into regional tournament play Thursday.
