OKLAHOMA CITY- On Tuesday afternoon, the Cavaliers (2-5-2, 0-2 SAC) dropped a road contest against Mid-America Christian University (7-2, 1-1 SAC) by a final score of 6-2. The Evangels became the second straight opponent against the Cavs to score six goals in a game, but early on in the game, it looked like it was going to be a very tight contest.
MACU scored only three minutes into the game, but the Cavaliers tied the game at one, only five minutes later when Ruben Basurto (SR/Mexico) scored on a penalty kick. St. Gregory's then took a lead in the eighteenth minute of the game on a Frank Molina (JR/Houston, Texas) goal from the right wing. The Evangels tied the game at two in the thirty-fifth minute of the game, and from that point on they were able to dominate. MACU led the game 4-2 going into halftime, and then they were able to add two more insurance goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Declan Started the game in net, and made four saves, before being replaced by Paulo Lopez (SO/Oklahoma City, Okla.), who would make one more save. Lopez also added an assist in the game, on Frank Molina's goal. Ruben Basurto and Lesli Feh (FR/Ghana) each took two shots on goal, while Jordan McEvoy (NA/Dublin, Ireland), Frank Molina, and Vanja Radulovic (FR/Zagreb, Croatia) each took one shot on goal.
The Cavs will be back on the pitch on Tues., Oct. 10, when they play at Southwestern Christian University (9-2, 3-0 SAC) at 3 PM.
Lady Cavs fall to MACU
OKLAHOMA CITY- Hanna Arthur (FR/Yukon, Okla) extended her goal scoring streak to four straight games, but it wasn't enough to propell the Cavaliers (4-5, 0-2 SAC) past the Evangels (7-1, 2-0 SAC). MACU struck first, when Brittney Stephens scored in the ninth minute of the game. MACU's lead was short-lived though, as Hanna Arthur tied the game at one a piece, only one minute and seven seconds after the Evangels took an early lead. Mid-America Christian University scored the game winning goal in the seventy-ninth minute, thanks to the foot of Allyson Pamplin, giving MACU the 2-1 win.
The Cavaliers battled hard with an Evangels team that has only suffered one loss so far this season. SGU was only able to record three shots on goal, but the Cavs were kept in the game thanks to Mallory Adams (SR/Edmond, Okla.)' 8 saves. Arthur recorded two of the Cavs three shots on goal, and she scored for the sixth time this season, to lead the squad. Nathaly Lopez (JR/Cerritos, Calif.) recorded one shot on goal for the Cavaliers.
St. Gregory's will be back in action on the pitch on Tues., Oct. 10, when they play at Southwestern Christian University at 1 PM.
