OKLAHOMA CITY — Thanks to an 18-0 advantage after halftime, Meeker knocked off Northeast 24-6 Thursday night in a District 2A-2 confrontation.
Meeker dominated the final statistics, amassing 362 yards to 86 for the hosts, but couldn’t capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
Brett Roach produced Meeker’s only first-half touchdown on a 4-yard run. Roach was the game’s leading rusher with 168 yards on 34 attempts.
Roach, a 185-pound senior, added a 14-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter for a 12-6 Bulldog lead.
The Bulldogs upped the count to 18-6 when the Northeast quarterback, under heavy defensive pressure in the end zone, unloaded the ball. Linebacker Jarrett Marks made the interception at the 2-yard line and scored.
Quarterback Jacob Martin, a 165-pound sophomore, concluded the scoring on a 2-yard run.
Meeker posted 191 rushing yards while limiting Northeast to 71 yards on 33 carries for a 2.1-yard average.
Martin completed 11 of 24 passes (one interception) for 171 yards. Junior Dawson Stansberry caught five passes for 112 yards.
Dakota Gabbert and Noah Breedlove recorded an interception apiece for the victors.
Senior Casin Rymel was credited with eight tackles, including three sacks.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 overall, including a 2-0 mark in 2A-2. Northeast fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in 2A-2.
Meeker will entertain Oklahoma City Millwood Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
Millwood is 5-0, including a 2-0 district record.
