The Shawnee Lady Wolves and Bethel Lady Wildcats will both be making a return to the state fast pitch tournament this weekend after a few years out of the running.

Bethel last won the state title in 1999 playing in Class 3A and Shawnee will be looking for their first-ever state fast pitch title.

Shawnee opens at 4:00 p.m. Thursday against Piedmont in the Class 5A tournament. The Lady Wolves (24-10) finished second in District 5A-3 and powered through the three games of their regional with a combined total of 30-5.

Piedmont finished first in 5A-2 with a record of 28-5. They swept through their regional with a 12-0 win over Western Heights and beat El Reno twice, 18-1 and 9-0. Shawnee and Piedmont did not play each other in the regular season.

The winner of Shawnee-Piedmont will play the victor of Durant-Woodward Friday at 1:30 in the semi-finals.

Bethel will play in the class 4A tournament this time around with Hilldale as their first opponent at 4:00 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Wildcats (25-14) lost to Hilldale 6-1 at the beginning of the season to fall to a 2-5 record but bounced back with a 9-2 rally to start their run to the state tournament.

They were one of only two teams to beat Class 2A state champion Dale during the season.

Hilldale finished 28-9 and was lossless in District 4A-7 contests.
