Savage's last-second shot wins it for Lady Pirates

LATTA – Lacey Savage made a baseline drive at the last second to secure a 44-42 win for Dale over Latta Tuesday night.

The Lady Pirates trailed 13-4 after the first quarter but clawed back for a 14-4 run in the second to go into the half trailing by one. They kept the pace with a 15-9 run in the third and held on to take the narrow win.

Claire Chastain finished with 20 points and was 7-10 from the line to lead all scorers. She also brought down six boards and made three steals. Savage was 4-6 from the stripe and finished with six points and Maddie Degraffenreid had six points on two 3-pointers.

The girls move to 2-0 with the win and will host Amber-Pocassett Friday at 6:30.

Pirates suffer first loss at Latta

LATTA – A good night from the charity stripe couldn't save Dale from a 43-33 defeat at Latta Tuesday to give them their first loss of the season. The team finished 14-16 from the line, where Logan Woodruff went a perfect 5-5 and Gabe Gouge was 7-8.

The Pirates got out to an 11-9 lead after the first and found themselves tied at 16 at the half. Latta outscored them the rest of the way.

Woodruff led all scorers with 14 points and was the only member with a successful 3-pointer for Dale and Gouge had 11.

Hayden Hoppe led Latta with 12 points followed by Trent Smith with 11.

Dale (1-1) will host Amber-Pocassett Friday at 8.
