SHAWNEE – Monica Brooks put on a season-high 18 point performance Friday as No. 16 in Class 6A Shawnee took down 5A No. 7 El Reno 52-34 in the semifinals of the Shawnee Invitational Friday. Shawnee coach Wendi Wells said Brooks looked the best she has since she got hurt during a pre-season scrimmage last year.

“She was just real aggressive and looking to score... really glad to see her get going again,” she said.

Brooks helped Shawnee get out to a quick start with six points of a 10-0 run to start the game. El Reno's Kiera Davis stopped the run with two free-throw makes 5:35 into the game to get the Lady Indians on the board.

Kasey Rice rallied with all seven of Shawnee's points in a 7-3 run to start the second and take a 26-12 lead. El Reno countered with six unanswered points to get the difference back down to single digits, but Makyra Tramble hit a 3-pointer with 1:08 to go in the half to give Shawnee a 29-18 advantage at the midway point.

Wells made some adjustments after the half to try to keep El Reno away from the line, where they were 8-11 in the first half.

“When we backed up and kinda gave them a little step, they weren't able to attack as well as they had been,” she said.

Brooks made a basket and two free-throws to start off the third and Jasmine Martinez hit a 3-pointer with 54 seconds left to close out a 15-4 run for Shawnee.

Shawnee went into the fourth with a 44-25 lead and rallied with six unanswered points capped on charity tosses by Tramble for a 50-25 advantage with 4:48 left in the game.

Brooks led all scorers while Rice and Tramble each had 13 points.

Jaylin Reveles led El Reno with 13 points.

Shawnee will play 4A No. 4 Ardmore in the tournament championship game Saturday at 7.
