CASHION — A sparkling second-half defensive effort carried Dale to a 54-43 victory over Riverside in Saturday night’s championship game of the Cashion County Line Tournament.
Dale limited Riverside to 12 second-half points — 8 in the third quarter and 4 in the fourth quarter.
Gabe Gouge spearheaded Dale’s offense with 17 points. Dallen Forsythe contributed 12 points while Logan Woodruff and Brady Johnson notched 11 apiece.
Johnson fashioned three of Dale’s six 3-point field goals. Forsythe, Woodruff and Gouge had one trey apiece.
Hugh Edmo, Riverside’s leading scorer with 17, chalked up four treys. Riverside finished with six treys.
Dale canned 12-of-16 free throws, led by Woodruff at 4-of-4. Riverside was 5-of-8 at the charity stripe.
“We had really good defense in the second half. We beat three good teams at this tournament,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said.
Riverside held a 20-10 advantage at one point in the first quarter before Dale whittled the margin to 20-16. The Pirates then outscored Riverside 19-11 in the second quarter to forge a 35-31 advantage at the intermission.
Both Dale squads will be off until Friday when they go up against McLoud.
