JONES — On most nights, a 51-percent shooting night by Prague’s girls is too much for foes to overcome.

But that wasn’t the case Tuesday as unranked Jones sank 59.5 percent (25 of 42) of its field-goal attempts to stun Class 3A third-ranked Prague 63-61 in a regular-season finale.

Jones was accurate on 19 of 27 shots from 2-point range and 6 of 15 from beyond the arc. Jones was also 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Prague canned 23-of-45 shots and also excelled at the charity stripe at 10 of 11. Prague was 3 of 9 from 3-point range.

“Jones was sky high and played really well,” Prague coach Benny Burnett said. “The kids have to understand we will get everybody’s best shot.”

Freshman Chantae Embry led Prague offensively with a game-high 30 points — 14 in the opening half and 16 after intermission.

The game was tight throughout with Prague trailing 45-44 heading into the final quarter. Trailing 63-61, Prague gained possession of the ball with five seconds remaining but committed a turnover.

Caylee Young headed Jones’ scoring with 24 and teammate Bailey Ely knocked down three treys en route to a 19-point outing.

“We didn’t have an answer for Young,” Burnett said. “They shot the lights out and hit some open 3-pointers.”

Prague chalked up 21 rebounds — eight offensive and 13 defensive. Jones collected 17 rebounds — seven offensive and 10 defensive.

Prague is 20-2 with the other loss coming to Kiefer.

Burnett’s squad will entertain Vian Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in a district matchup. The winner and loser will advance to regional play Thursday, Feb. 22 at Prague.

Jones will be among the regional entries at Prague..
