Shawnee's Colby Ezell and Caleb Nahmahpeah both qualified for the state wrestling meet Saturday with their performances in their Class 6A regional.
Nahmahpeah finished in fourth in the 113-pound weight class after losing by fall to Jake Wright of Southmoore in 1:11. Nahmahpeah opened up Saturday with a 12-10 decision over Dominic Derr of Westmoore in the consolation semifinals to earn a spot in the third place match.
Ezell (285) started his day with a win by fall in the third round of consolation but lost a 4-1 decision to Yukon's Ashton Aldridge in the semifinal. Ezell won by fall in 4:52 over Jaylin Parker of Moore to finish in fifth.
Garrett Hopkins competed for fifth in the 220-pound weight class but lost via a 2:15 fall to Marquon Journey of Southmoore to miss out on a spot at state.
Isaac Bertram (106), Jose Cervantes (132) and Kylin Workman (145) also survived to the second day of regionals Saturday but did not advance to state.
Coach Larry James was happy with the production from his team this year.
“I’m proud of our kids they wrestled hard all weekend long! That’s all we ask them to do is compete and compete hard,” he said.
