CHECOTAH — Courtney Mansell canned 5-of-10 shots from beyond the 3-point line Friday as Tecumseh’s girls nicked Checotah 56-53 in a Class 4A regional tournament losers’ bracket game.

Mansell tallied a game-high 25 points as Tecumseh advanced to a 1:30 elimination game today against the loser of Friday’s Hilldale-Roland contest.

Tecumseh, 6-18, trailed 25-15 at halftime but took charge with a 23-10 edge in the third quarter. Checotah never led down the stretch, and hit a 3-pointer at the final buzzer.

Taylor Walker added 13 points and Kylie Jones 11 for the victors. Walker, Jones and Katie Howell posted a trey apiece as the Lady Savages were 8 of 21 from long range.

Walker was 4 of 5 from the free-throw line as Tecumseh went 8 of 15. Checotah was just 16 of 29 from the line.

“Any time you get a playoff win, it’s exciting,” Tecumseh coach Matt Thornton said.
