STROUD – Earlsboro is going back to the state tournament.

The top-ranked in Class B Wildcats took down Timberlake 57-53 Saturday night to emerge as Area 2 champions and secure a berth in the state tournament.

The Wildcats took a narrow 11-10 lead in the first and extended ahead 33-28 at the half. Both teams had low scoring in the third and Timberlake came back to lead 47-44 in the fourth, but the Wildcats stuck with it to earn the win.

Elijah Stargell finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to earn a double-double and lead all scorers. Trey Herron had 12, Kaveon Sharp had 10 and five dimes and Trenton Nadeau had nine with three 3-pointers. The team was 9-12 from the free throw line.

Timberlake was led by Vtah Bishard with 19 points and Cooper Redding had 13.

The Wildcats will enter the tournament Thursday at Southern Nazarene with a record of 27-1. Opponent and time have not yet been determined.
