OWASSO — The third-ranked Dale girls charged into the upcoming area tournament by smashing Pawhuska 61-38 Monday afternoon in a Class 2A regional tournament elimination test.
Dale, upset 48-45 by Luther Friday night, knocked off Chelsea 56-25 Saturday, then prevailed Monday to remain alive in the playoffs.
Dale coach Josh Forsythe emptied his bench and 10 players scored, headed by Lacey Savage with 12.
Dale (25-4) must capture three area tournament victories, beginning Thursday at 6:30 at Catoosa against the loser of Monday’s regional bout between Kiefer and Caney Valley, to advance to the state tournament.
“We played our bench a little more this time than the first time we played Pawhuska,” Forsythe said. “I was very proud of our bench players. They did a good job of extending the lead. We talked about having to play three games in three days, about eating right and getting rest. We will need all the energy we can muster.”
Lindy Nowakowski tallied 10 points Monday while Rylie Thompson and Maddie Degraffenreid finished with 8 apiece. Degraffenreid hit two 3-point field goals.
Savage collected 8 points and 4 steals. Claire Chastain chipped in with 4 rebounds and Thompson recorded three steals.
If Dale wins Thursday, it would play Friday at 1:30. A win Friday would put Dale in Saturday’s 6:30 championship game.
Dale hit 75 percent (15-20) of its free throws with Nowakowski going 6 of 7.
Dale defeated Pawhuska 62-21 in district play.
