PRAGUE—So, so close. The Prague Red Devils’ hoops season ended Monday with a heartbreaking 49-47 OT loss to the Jones Longhorns in the Consolation Championship of the Class 3A Region-4 tournament.
Prague, whch trailed the majority of the game, stormed back from 10 points down at the 5:01 mark of the fourth quarter, to send the contest into overtime. Trailing 47-45, Prague's Ray Embry grabbed a loose ball in the paint and powered his way up for a hoop and a foul with 0:4.4 remaining. Embry had a chance to give the Red Devils the go-ahead point, but back-ironed the free throw, sending the game into the extra four-minute session.
In overtime, Embry won the opening tip and the Red Devils put the ball into the deep freeze for 3:45 of play. Prague called a timeout with :15 left to set up for a final shot.
The Longhorns had other ideas.
Corbin Talley got his hand on the in-bounds pass and took the ball three-quarters of the court and was fouled in the act of his layup attempt. Talley sank both free throws to give Jones the win, as Prague's last gasp at a tie failed.
Jones started the game on a 7-0 run and held a 12-8 lead after the first quarter. They extended the lead to 24-17 at the half and 32-21with 2:47 left in the third quarter. That's when Prague began to chip away, primarily on the back of Zadden Jones. Jones scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, helping to set up Embry's game-tying bucket.
Isaac Bloomer joined Jones in double figures with 13 points. The Longhorns were led in scoring by Cody Farmer's 12 points.
