An odyssey that began late in the fall in a quest for the gold ball reached its final destination in Saturday’s OSSAA championship basketball games.
Putnam City North powered past Edmond Santa Fe, 65-58, in the Class 6A boys final.
The Bartlesville Bruins didn’t play either or those squads.
Results of the other boys’ state finals:
Class 5A: Tulsa Memorial 79, Tulsa Washington 67.
Class 4A: Heritage Hall 61, Kingfisher 56.
Class 3A: Star-Spencer 64, Kingston 55 (ot).
Class 2A: Wright City 62, Latta 49.
Owasso surprised top-ranked Putnam City West, 53-51, in the Class 6A championship game.
That outcome added a bit more luster to the Bartlesville Lady Bruins’ season.
Bartlesville defeated Owasso, 46-38, on Jan. 16 — one of only three losses the champion Lady Rams suffered all season.
Bartlesville advanced all the way to the state quarterfinals last Thursday and suffered an elimination loss to
Edmond Santa Fe, 48-42.
Owasso defeated Edmond Santa Fe, 48-43, in Friday’s semifinals.
The Bartlesville Lady Bruins also beat Fort Gibson, 42-37, which went on to win the Class 4A state crown.
Results of the other girls’ state finals:
Class 5A: Tulsa Washington 56, Pryor 49 (ot).
Class 4A: Ft. Gibson 55, Harrah 41.
Class 3A: Tahlequah-Sequoyah 53, Kingston 51.
Class 2A: Christian Heritage 57, Cashion 46.
