SHAWNEE – The Shawnee girls tennis team placed third in their home invitational Friday thanks to second-place finishes in their singles brackets.

Kristen Gilbert finished runner-up in the No. 1 singles after a 6-0, 6-3 loss in the championship match. She beat Capital Hill's Selena Rivera 6-1, 6-0 in her first round and survived a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 match against Tecumseh's Kamee Thompson in her second match.

Olivia Stobbe took second in No. 2 singles after losing 4-6, 4-6 in her final match. She won 6-0, 6-2 in her first match and controlled her second match 6-1, 6-2.

Kenzie Yort and Rose Templeton won their first No. 1 doubles match 6-4, 6-3 but lost the next two to finish fourth. Hayden Powell and Bryce Warren won 6-1, 6-1 in their opener but suffered 4-6, 1-6 and 6-7, 4-6 setbacks to finish fourth in No. 2 doubles.
