CHANDLER – Bethel kept things close in a 6-5 loss to Putnam City West Friday at Chandler, but a run from Putnam City in the top of the seventh proved too much to escape defeat.

Jake Williams hit his final batter faced in the game with bases loaded to bring in the game-winning run and send Jaylon Gordon out to close for the final out.

The Wildcats trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth but rallied with four runs to even things up.

Gordon doubled to score Bailey Raines and Seth Jackson and Williams and Cache Hankins each had an RBI single to even up the game.

Gordon was 2-3 and drove in two runs to lead the team and Cameron Egger was 1-3 with a triple.

Williams was handed the loss and gave up six runs on eight hits and walked nine. Neither team committed an error.

The loss drops Bethel to 3-8 on the season.
