STONEWALL — Davis smacked top-ranked Dale with three runs in the top of the first inning Thursday at the Stonewall Tournament.

That apparently angered the Lady Pirates.

Dale responded by sending 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first while scoring 11 runs. Dale went on to knock off Davis 16-3 in a game called by the 12-after-3 run rule.

Dale finished with 15 hits, including 10 in the first inning.

Delanie Manning and Lacey Savage collected 3-run home runs in the opening inning. Savage added a double and finished with four runs batted in. Manning also singled.

Mikayla Rutland of Dale smashed two doubles and drove in two runs. Rylie Premo managed two singles and Sara Lock had a double.

“This is a really good tournament,” Dale coach Andy Powell said. “”You have the lst, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th-ranked teams in our class in this tournament. It’s a 20-team tourney with 12 or 13 state-tourney teams from different classes.”

Dale will challenge Stuart at 5:50 today in further tourney action. The tournament will conclude Saturday.
