TAHLEQUAH — Tecumseh’s boys picked up two first-place medals Saturday at a Class 5A regional.
Matt Higdon bettered all other shot put entrants with a 48-02.50 effort. The 1,600 relay group, composed of Clayton Rackley, Jaxon Day, Graham Dickson and Raymond Thomas placed first (3:29.57).
Rackley and Day came in third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters with times of 51.35 and 51.98. Rackley also was third in the 800 (2:00.12) and joined teammates Anthony Billy, Chase Chester and Day to come in third in the 3,200 relay.
Higdon was runner-up in the discus throw with a 145-04 effort. Teammate Alex Schovanec was fourth (142-07). In the shot put, Schovanec was fourth (45-01.
James Brayden came in fourth in the long jump at 20-00 and joined Jarad Maxwell, Brendan Cavillo and Raymond Thomas to come in fifth in the 800 relay ((1:33.74). Maxwell earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump (5-10).
Tecumseh’s boys were fourth in the 10-team standings with 84.33 points. Tulsa Kelley was the regional champion with 130 points, followed by McAlester with 105.33 and Glenpool with 89.33.
The Lady Savages, propelled by Cierra Garcia and Kayla McGruder, were seventh with 53 points.
McGruder captured the 400-meter dash with a 1:00.79 effort, holding off Kelley runner-up Seabring Huckleberry (1:01.53). McGruder also earned runner-up honors in the 800 meters (2:32.71) and the 1,600 (542.60).
Emily Hall of Tecumseh was sixth in the shot put (35-07).
Garcia was a runner-up in the 200 (27.41) and long jump (15-05).
Tecumseh’s 3,200 relay group of Madison Day, Brinkley Bone, Jacey Cox and McGruder came in fifth (10:50.51).
Tecumseh’s regional qualifiers will compete Friday and Saturday at the state meet in Yukon.
