Head coach Bobby Cox and the Bison have signed Monterrey Peninsula College infielder/pitcher Daniel Marti for the 2010-2011 baseball season. Marti is a graduate of Monte Sacro High School in Caracas, Venezuela, where he played under coach Alexis Quiniones.
The team was selected for nationals four times, winning the title in 2006. Marti was a five-time Most Valuable Player, hitting .380 with four home runs in 2006 and .350 with seven home runs in 2007. He was also the Most Valuable Pitcher in 2007.
At Monerrey, under coaches Daniel Phillips and Vince Herring, Maggi hit .298 in 2009 before concentrating more on pitching in 2010. He recorded a 2.02 earned run average in 11 appearances in 2010. Opponents hit a meager .212 against him.
Marti chose OBU because “OBU has a solid baseball program and thre is a high level of competition.”
Marti plans to major in business administration.
