St. Gregory’s Cavaliers, with four players in double figures, posted a 71-60 win over visiting Avila College Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the year.
The Cavaliers trailed 33-28 at halftime but outscored the visitors 43-27 the last 20 minutes.
Chris Dean led the way for the victors with 17 points. Also in double figures for the Cavaliers were Justin Chambers (15), Fayzon Richey (14) and Dominique Johnson (10).
Neither team shot real well from the field — the visitors at 33.9 percent (21-62) and the hosts at 42.6 percent (26-61).
St. Gregory’s turned the ball over just 10 times and outrebounded Avila 46-40 as Chambers, Richey and John Clark pulled in seven apiece.
Avila, which trailed 33-28 at the half, fell to 4-2.
The Cavaliers took only seven shots from 3-point range, hitting one, while Avila was at 26.9 percent (7-26).
The Cavaliers will entertain Paul Quinn University Tuesday night at 7. St. Gregory’s defeated Paul Quinn in the season opener.
