The Golden State Warriors acquired free agent Corey Maggette on Thursday, signing away the Los Angeles Clippers’ scoring leader.
While the team would not comment on terms of the contract, a person with knowledge of the deal previously told The Associated Press that Maggette would be signed for 5 years at around $50 million.
The 6-foot-6 swingman is expected to be a good fit for Warriors’ coach Don Nelson’s frenetic, fast-paced style of play.
The 28-year-old former Duke star appeared in 70 games last season with the Clippers and averaged 22.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.01 steals in 35.7 minutes per contest.
Maggette trades teams with Baron Davis, who left the Warriors last week to sign with the Clippers.
Davis opted out of a $17 million deal for next season to accept a smaller salary to play in his hometown with Elton Brand and perhaps Maggette. However, Brand signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday and now Maggette is a Warrior.
Miller suspended
NEW YORK (AP) — Brad Miller of the Sacramento Kings was suspended for five games by the NBA on Thursday because the center violated the league drug program.
Miller, whose ban is set to begin with the first game of the 2008-09 season, averaged 13.4 points and 9.5 rebounds in 72 games last season.
Jazz sign Koufous
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Jazz signed first-round pick Kosta Koufos on Thursday to a contract that will pay him around $1 million a year.
Utah drafted the 19-year-old center from Ohio State with the 23rd pick last month. Koufos played one season with the Buckeyes, then decided to leave school for the NBA.
Koufos will play for Utah’s summer league team in the Rocky Mountain Revue, which the Jazz host July 18-25.
Jones charged
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.
The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.
Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.
Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.
Jones was released from the Washington County jail on $2,500 bond. His arraignment on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance was set for Aug. 11, two days after Jacksonville’s preseason opener against Atlanta.

Williams not guilty
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Brian Williams has been found not guilty of drunk driving after a night of partying.
The athlete showed no reaction as the verdict was read Thursday. Had he been convicted, he faced up to a year in jail.
Officers say Williams swerved his Jaguar in front of a patrol car and had watery and bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol when he was arrested in September 2006.
Williams testified he was not intoxicated, but acknowledged he lied when an officer asked him if he had any drinks.
Damon still out
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Johnny Damon’s injured left shoulder is still too sore for baseball activities and the New York Yankees left fielder is hoping to start hitting off a tee on Monday.
Damon sprained and bruised his shoulder when he crashed into the left-field fence trying for a leaping catch against Boston last Friday. He is continuing to get treatment and has seen gradual improvement.
Damon is on the disabled list for the first time in his major league career after 13 1/2 seasons and 1,927 regular-season games.
WVU signs Proby
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Junior college forward Dee Proby has signed a grant-in-aid to play basketball at West Virginia.
WVU coach Bob Huggins announced the signing of the 6-foot-9 Proby on Thursday.
Proby had signed last fall to play at Oklahoma State but was granted a release from his letter-of-intent after Cowboys coach Sean Sutton resigned on April 1.
Proby averaged 14 points and six rebounds this season at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.
He joins four other signees at West Virginia for the 2008-2009 season.
