The Bison have signed two California products in Darby Ventura and Daniel Baptista.
Ventura, an All-Valley Conference catcher from Taft College, has signed to play for the 2010-11 season.
A 5-10 sophomore from Mililani, Hawaii, Ventura played at Damien Memorial High School under coach Terry Derby and earned second tem All-ILH honors.
He was a two-time second-team All-Valley Conference selection for coach Vince Maiocco’s Taft College Cougars. He batted over .300 with 12 home runs and 60 runs batted in during two seasons at Taft.
“I chose OBU o extend my education and my baseball career,” Ventura said.
Baptista, an All-Bay Valley first baseman, is a 6-4, 290-pound junior-to-be. At Fairfield High School in California, Baptista was a 2007 and 2008 all-league first baseman and team Offensive Player of the Year. He hit .412 with two home runs, 27 runs batted in, nine doubles and three triples as a senior.
At Solano Conmunity College, Baptista was a unanimous All-Bay Valley Conference first baseman as a sophomore, hitting .331 with nine home runs, 13 doubles, 45 RBI and a .662 slugging percentage. He also was on the Dean’s List as a communication’s major.
“After taking everything into perspective, OBU was the perfect fit,” Baptista said. “OBU has a really good baseball prorgram and also has my major.”
OBU, under the direction of head coach Bobby Cox, compiled a 38-16 record in 2010. The Bison were 15-15 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
