Oklahoma Baptist got a combined 73 points from Nate Brumfield and A.J. Hawkins en route to a 123-94 exhibition win over East Central Monday night.
Brumfield had 39 points on 16-of-21 shooting while Hawkins was 14-of-15 with 34 points, to go with 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
“Nate and AJ both had great games,” said OBU coach Doug Tolin. The guards did a good job getting the ball to those guys and they did a good job finishing it. We’ve got some players that have some
offensive skills.”
OBU started with a 9-0 run and never trailed in the up-tempo contest.
“Overall, the object is to improve and that was a very athletic team,” said Tolin. “We handled the ball well I thought. I thought we were a lot more ready to play than we were Friday night. That game just went up and down. There were times we ran plays, but it was pretty much up and down. It’s ok to play quick if you’re efficient and we were a little more efficient than they were tonight.”
A 10-1 Bison run pushed the lead out to 41-23 with 7:36 left in the first half. Emmanuel Wilson had a personal 8-0 run to give OBU a 59-38 edge late in the half. The Bison enjoyed a 62-42 lead at the half.
Four different Bison scored in a 7-0 run to give OBU its largest lead, 119-87, with 2:21 left in the game.
Wilson was the only other Bison in double figures for the night with 14 points.
After shooting 60 percent in the first half, the Bison went 23-of-29 from the field in the second half for 79.3 percent. The team shot 68 percent for the game.
OBU has another exhibition against yet another former District 9 foe on Thursday when the Bison travel to Durant to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State. OBU returns home Saturday to play College of the Southwest in the Homecoming Game at 3:30 p.m.
