For the fourth straight game, Macomb’s Hornets dug too big a first-half hole and couldn’t recover.
The Hornets trailed 40-12 at the half en route to a 64-18 setback to Paoli Thursday night at Farris Willingham Field.
“We just came out in the first half and got too far behind,” Macomb head coach Tommy Price said. “We played better in the second half. We’ve done that the last four weeks.”
“We’re going to have to tackle much better. We missed a lot of tackles tonight.”
Quarterback Scotty Robinett launched Macomb’s scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Robinett faked a sweep and scored on a naked bootleg.
Fellow senior Ryan Day scored the second Hornet touchdown on a 12-yard dash up the middle in the second quarter.
The Hornets then closed out their scoring in the third quarter when Robinett and Dale Whitlock hooked up on a 75-yard scoring pass on an out pattern.
The game was stopped on the mercy rule with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Robinett led Macomb in rushing with 89 yards on 12 carries. Day chipped in with 48 ground yards on 10 attempts while Terrance Annanders rushed six times for 38 yards. Whitlock rushed one time for 18 yards.
Robinett completed 6 of 14 aerials for 108 yards.
Whitlock was Macomb’s leading pass receiver with three catches for 89 yards. Ryan Howard, a junior, was on the receiving end of three passes for 16 yards.
Macomb, 1-6 overall and 0-6 in District B-2, will continue district play Thursday, Oct. 21 at Oklahoma Christian. Oklahoma Christian is 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the district entering tonight’s confrontation with district foe Alex.
Macomb also has an Oct. 29 game versus Fox and a Nov. 5 contest at Alex.
