It was a bittersweet victory for Meeker Thursday as the Bulldogs trumped Mounds, 43-14, in a contest that was halted early because of an injury.
With 2:32 left on the clock, Meeker’s Jacob Wood suffered a neck injury that required medical attention, but head coach Mike Hedge informed The News-Star Friday that Wood is OK.
“He’s alright,” Hedge said. “It was a precautionary thing with the neck injury, but he’s home and he’s good to go.”
The coaching staffs of each team mutually agreed to end the contest at the time of the injury.
The win bumps Meeker (6-2, 3-2) from fifth to fourth in District 2A-5. In other 2A-5 games Thursday, Holdenville fell 47-14 to Morris, and Stroud defeated Haskell, 44-8. This puts Stroud (7-1, 4-1) in first place.
Okemah (6-2, 3-1), who defeated non-district opponent Porter Thursday, is tied for second with Morris (5-3, 3-1).
