Both games went just 4 1/2 innings because of the run rule.

Dale’s payback of Pawnee yields gold ball

Kaylee Wilkins summed it up best.
“Sweet revenge. It’s just awesome,” Wilkins, a Dale High School senior, said just moments after she and her fellow Lady Pirates smothered defending champion Pawnee for the Class 2A basketball title Saturday at State Fair Arena.

Claytor throws no-hitter for Asher

Derek Claytor hurled a five-inning no-hitter Friday, dishing out five strikeouts and never issuing a walk as the Asher Indians clobbered host Allen 14-0.
The game was halted on the run rule.

Meeker upended

The Bulldogs of Meeker were limited to two hits Friday in an 11-1 setback to Jones.

Cydney Ramirez and Niki Haddad of Shawnee rang up three victories Friday to capture the No. 1 doubles championship of the Guthrie Tournament.
After posting straight-set victories over Edmond Santa Fe and Guthrie, Ramirez and Haddad defeated the Edmond North entry 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 for the crown.

Shawnee falls to Buffs; Saxon excels in setback

Shawnee let go an early one-run lead Friday, and left several runners stranded late en route to falling 4-2 to the host McAlester Buffaloes.
Leadoff batter Saulyer Saxon sent the game’s opening pitch over the fence for a 1-0 lead for the Wolves, but the Buffs answered and closed the first frame with a 2-1 edge.

Lady Pirates pummel Snyder to reach finals

An early two-point slump didn’t daunt Dale Friday, and the Lady Pirates dispatched Snyder, 40-23, to reach today’s final round of the Class 2A state tournament at State Fair Arena.
Dale, 26-4, will clash with Pawnee at 10:30 a.m. today to see who has the rights to top-team status. Pawnee, the defending state champion, smothered Washington 64-45 in Friday’s semis.
“I was real pleased,” Dale head coach Benny Burnett said of his team’s performance Friday. “(Snyder) tried to take away Brenna (Burnett) and Kaylee (Wilkins), and the other three girls really stepped up.”

Pirates’ title dreams dashed

The Dale Pirates’ quest for the Class 2A basketball championship hit a roadblock Friday night.
Talihina’s Jordan Eagleroad torched the Pirates’ defense in the State Fair Arena nets, giving the Golden Tigers a 58-34 win.
Eagleroad scored 28 points and hit six 3-pointers against several types of defense that the Pirates threw at him.

Pirates pull off thriller in OT

In a thrilling 2A state quarterfinal with a little bit of everything, Dale rallied for a 71-69 overtime victory over Hulbert Thursday night at Norman High School.
The Pirates, who trailed 48-41 with five minutes remaining, earned a regulation-play tie at 59. Hulbert’s Richard Henson knocked down a 3-pointer with 17 seconds remaining for the tie.
Dale’s Turner Coon missed a long jumper at the buzzer after being knocked hard to the floor seconds before. No foul was called on the play, much to the chagrin of Dale head coach Jeff Edmonson.

Late rally ends Prague’s season

A late rally was just enough Thursday afternoon as Tishomingo slipped by Prague, 31-27, to end the Lady Red Devils’ season and their bid for a Class 3A state title.
The game was held at Choctaw High School.
The fourth-seeded Lady Indians took advantage of 13 Prague turnovers — five in the first half and eight in the second — to cut away at the Lady Red Devils’ lead and take over down the stretch. Three turnovers in a row were the most costly.
“We threw it away at a time that was crucial,” said Prague coach Jay Depanion. “That really, really hurt us, because we had the tempo and the pace. The turnovers caught up with us.
We just fell a little short.”

Hornets open with doubleheader

The Macomb Hornets opened the 2010 baseball campaign with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Maud on Thursday. They opened the twinbill with a 7-0 win and followed it up with a 9-2 decision.

Sierra Ward scored Shawnee’s third goal, assisted by Parsons, and Parson finished her hat trick with an unassisted shot late.

Lady Pirates reach semifinals with defeat of Newkirk

Dale needed a half to get used to the surroundings of the “Big House,” but once they did, Newkirk offered little resistance in the Lady Pirates charging into today’s Class 2A semifinals. Dale handed the Lady Tigers their walking papers in a 31-21 triumph.
“It took a little while for us to adjust to the arena,” said Dale head coach Benny Burnett. “We showed a lot of poise in the second half.”

Shawnee’s varsity soccer team fell into a 7-0 rut in the first half Tuesday before succumbing 12-0 to the host Tigers.

Dale, Prague open title bids today

The Dale boys and girls, with a combined 34 state tournament appearances, will up that count to 36 today when Class 2A play begins at two sites.

Titans’ six roundtrippers bury Wolves

Visiting Carl Albert dished out 22 hits to Shawnee’s four Tuesday, and collected half a dozen home runs in the process in leveling the Wolves, 25-2, at Memorial Park.
Two of the homers — by J.T. Realmuto and Clark Roberts — accounted for six of the Titans’ seven fifth-inning runs. The game ended after five frames on the run rule.
Realmuto’s shot cleared the right-field fence, while Roberts’ made it over the right-center wall at over 370 feet.

Hill posts 16 strikeouts as Savages upend McLoud

Tecumseh hurler Kevin Hill went the distance Tuesday, delivering 16 strikeouts and issuing no walks as the Savages upended McLoud’s Redskins, 5-1.
Hill surrendered only three hits, and McLoud’s only run came on a balk.
“He threw real well for his first outing,” Tecumseh coach Quintin Nichols said. “The kids played pretty good defense behind him. They played hard and got after it.”
Hill and the Savages are now 1-0 on the season.
