Claytor throws no-hitter for Asher

ALLEN — Derek Claytor hurled a five-inning no-hitter Friday, dishing out five strikeouts and never issuing a walk as the Asher Indians clobbered host Allen 14-0.
The game was halted on the run rule.
Asher amassed 17 hits as Trent Boles and Fred Oliphant went a perfect 4-for-4 and 3-for-3, respectively. Dakota Magby collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs.
Boles and Oliphant each hit two doubles and had two RBIs.
Three-hole hitter Matt Johnson initated the Indians’ slugfest with a three-run blast in the top of the first, scoring Matt Palmer, Claytor and himself.
Asher led 4-0 after the first frame, and added single runs in the second and third. The Indians scored twice in the top of the fourth before unleashing a six-run fifth.
Asher, now 1-1, was on the thin side of a 10-2 final in their season opener Thursday at Roff.
The Tigers held a 1-0 lead through the first four innings, and Asher led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth. Roff added seven runs to close the fifth, and tacked on their final two in the bottom of the sixth.
Asher was out-hit 9-3.
Johnson was Asher’s big hitter of the contest, going 2-for-3, both singles.
The Indians will take part in the Tupelo Festival beginning March 16.
