DALE - The second-ranked Dale Lady Pirates outscored 10th-ranked Amber-Pocassett 17-5 in the first quarter and cruised to a 51-35 victory in a girls high school basketball clash Friday night.
Brenna Burnett poured in a game-leading 19 points and Kaylee Wilkins added 15 for the Lady Pirates, who kept their perfect record intact at 3-0.
Also contributing big for Dale was Linlee Blevins, who knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with nine points. Kendra Steward and Samantha Berry chipped in four points apiece for the winners.
“We did a great job in the first quarter in jumping on them,” said Lady Pirate head coach Benny Burnett. “Linlee hit two big 3s to start the game and hit another in the third quarter. Kaylee also had a 3 in the first quarter. They (Am-Po) were doubling down defensively on Brenna in the first quarter. Linlee and Kaylee did a good job hitting the 3s. Kendra did a great job on the boards and our freshman Samantha scored two big buckets in the second quarter when we got into some foul trouble.”
Jessi Treadway led Am-Po with nine points, Whitney Henderson followed with eight and Michelle Olsen ended up with seven.
In the boys game, Tuner Coon and Jimmy Doolin each tossed in 18 points to fuel the Pirates to a 67-32 rout of Am-Po.
Coon was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line while Dollin sank two 3-pointers for Dale, which also improved to 3-0 on the season.
Darin Greene followed with eight points for the winners and Evan Anderson chipped in six.
The Pirates jumped out to a 20-8 advantage after one quarter and led 32-14 at halftime. Dale’s lead swelled to 51-22 after three quarters.
Dale’s next action will be Tuesday at home against Roff.
