Visiting Carl Albert dished out 22 hits to Shawnee’s four Tuesday, and collected half a dozen home runs in the process in leveling the Wolves, 25-2, at Memorial Park.
Two of the homers — by J.T. Realmuto and Clark Roberts — accounted for six of the Titans’ seven fifth-inning runs. The game ended after five frames on the run rule.
Realmuto’s shot cleared the right-field fence, while Roberts’ made it over the right-center wall at over 370 feet.
“We basically ran into a buzz saw today,” SHS coach Todd Boyer said. “It didn’t matter what pitcher we put up there, they hit it.”
The Wolves employed six hurlers in the contest, including three in the second inning. Starter Dakota Blanchard was stuck with the loss.
Class 6A Shawnee’s battery combined for six walks, three hit batsmen and five strikeouts.
Roberts started on the mound for the Class 5A Titans, while Realmuto closed. Roberts earned the win to go to 1-0 in the Suburban Conference.
Blanchard and the Wolves are now 0-1 in the conference.
Carl Albert jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, and was up 10-0 before Shawnee garnered its first run in the bottom of the second frame.
The Titans added four more runs in the third inning, and led 18-1 before the Wolves crossed home plate for the second and final time to close out the fourth.
The Titans did not commit an error, while the Wolves miscued twice.
All four of Shawnee’s hits were singles. Carl Albert registered five doubles to go with the six home runs.
The Wolves are now 0-5 on the season as they prepare for a 5 p.m. varsity/junior varsity doubleheader at McAlester Friday.
“Fortunately for us, it’s early,” Boyer said. “We’ve just got to find a way, as coaches and players, to get better.”
Shawnee’s original conference opener was set against Western Heights on March 1, but that game was postponed because of inclement weather. A makeup date has yet to be announced, Boyer said.
