EARLSBORO — A buzzer-beating trey lifted Earlsboro to a 56-55 final over No. 16 Mason Friday, and moved the Wildcats to 11-10 on the season.
With his team down 55-53, Earlsboro’s Dion Wild scooped a rebound on a missed free throw with 3.3 seconds left to play and fed teammate Zach Miller from 30 feet away to set up the game-winning shot.
“We were pretty excited,” said Wildcats’ head coach Russell Parsons. “Mason’s a good team, and we were fortunate to get them there at the end.”
Earlsboro led by one point after the first quarter, but trailed 30-28 at halftime. Down 46-39 at the end of three quarters, the Wildcats posted a 17-9 run in the final eight minutes.
Miller and Zach Crow shared high-scoring honors for Earlsboro with 19 each. Crow was a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line.
Wild added 11.
Tyler Furnas led Mason with 16 points, followed by teammates Dillon Worley (13) and Josh Latham (12).
The Earlsboro girls used a 23-11 first-quarter lead to their advantage in the night’s first contest as they mauled Mason, 59-39.
The Lady Wildcats’ Megan Maloy nailed three treys en route to a game-high 22 points, and teammate Miracle Gentry hauled in 10 rebounds to go along with seven points.
Loren Brannon added 15 points for the Lady Wildcats, who are 12-9 on the season.
“I thought we played real intense for four quarters,” said Earlsboro head coach Mark Maloy.
The Lady Wildcats led 33-18 at halftime.
Jordynn Latham was Mason’s high scorer with 11.
Earlsboro will visit Sasakwa Tuesday night.
