Oklahoma Baptist rallied from 20 points down in the second half to force overtime against Southeastern State en route to a 106-101 double overtime victory Thursday night.
OBU trailed the Storm 59-39 early in the second half of the exhibition, but used a 19-2 run to pull within 61-58. The Bison had trouble getting over the three-point hump, trailing by three seven times down the stretch.
OBU’s Nate Brumfield scored with 41 seconds left to make it 73-72.
Mychal Horne’s two points made it 75-72. OBU got the ball back and Steinmetz buried a long three-pointer with nine seconds left. Southeastern missed two shots on the last possession of regulation to send the game to overtime.
OBU led 84-79 in the first OT but a Savage follow shot put the visitors down 85-84 with 11 seconds left.
Jerrod Tillmon hit 1-of-2 free throws at the :09 mark to tie the game and Southeastern didn’t get off a shot.
In the second OT, OBU took the lead for good at 97-95 on an A.J. Hawkins bucket. The Bison led 104-101 when Emmauel Wilson iced the game with two free throws with 7.8 seconds left.
Brumfield finished with 38 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Tillmon had 18 points. Hawkins registered 13 points and eight rebounds.
“That’s a pretty good game for November,” OBU head coach Doug Tolin said. “In the second half, we played much, much better and we learned a lot.”
OBU will host University of the Southwest Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as part of homecoming.
