McLOUD — Tecumseh hurler Kevin Hill went the distance Tuesday, delivering 16 strikeouts and issuing no walks as the Savages upended McLoud’s Redskins, 5-1.
Hill surrendered only three hits, and McLoud’s only run came on a balk.
“He threw real well for his first outing,” Tecumseh coach Quintin Nichols said. “The kids played pretty good defense behind him. They played hard and got after it.”
Hill and the Savages are now 1-0 on the season.
Tecumseh led 2-0 through the first two innings, and 3-0 before McLoud cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Savages punctuated the contest with a two-run sixth frame.
Garrett Carter threw all seven frames for the Redskins, giving up nine hits and three walks while fanning two batters. Four of Tecumseh’s five runs were earned.
At the plate for Tecumseh, Hill went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a triple, and Hunter Montgomery clubbed in a pair of runs in four at-bats. Lead-off hitter Tyler Factor scored twice and finished 2-for-3.
Clay Cox, Dillon Endecott and Chris Guinn each hit a single for McLoud, and Cox scored the Redskins’ lone run.
Tecumseh and McLoud will meet again Saturday as the team joins Seminole for a three-way contest at 1 p.m. in Wellston.
