The Game

Shawnee led 21-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at the half. SHS head coach Billy Brown swept his bench against the outmanned hosts.
The Wolves accumulated 286 yards of offense while the hosts were limited to 69. Capitol Hill finished the year at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in district play.
CH scored just 36 points in 10 games while surrendering 476.
Wolfpack quarterback Brayle Brown threw for two touchdowns and 138 yards before exiting the game in the second quarter.
Saulyer Saxon led the victors with three receptions for 50 yards. Nick Berry had two grabs for 42 yards.
Shawnee entered the game as the Class 5A total yard leader, averaging 455.22.

The Season

Shawnee claimed the District 5A-2 championship with a 7-0 record while earning its first undefeated regular season in 36 years. The 1973 SHS squad went 10-0 in the regular campaign en route to a state championship.
Thirty years later, the 2003 squad captured a state championship.
The Wolves outscored 10 opponents by a combined score of 451-190.
In 5A-2 play, Shawnee outscored foes 306-134.
Shawnee’s closest test thus far came in a 34-31 decision over Carl Albert in an Oct. 2 game at Jim Thorpe Stadium.
No other 2009 opponent has come closer than 10 points to the Wolves.

The Playoffs

Shawnee will launch postseason play next Friday night at Jim Thorpe Stadium against the fourth-place finisher from District 5A-1. That will likely be Altus.
Should Shawnee prevail, it would also get the home-field advantage for the second round.
Entering Friday night’s schedule, Altus and Deer Creek were locked in a fourth-place tie at 3-3 while Chickasha was 2-4. El Reno and Duncan had already locked up first-round host berths.
Sixteen teams from four 5A districts make the playoffs. In the first round, the first-place team from one district takes on the fourth-place team from another district while a district runner-up will oppose a third-place finisher.
To capture the 5A state title, a squad must win four games. The state championship game will be held the first weekend of December at a neutral site.
