Bethel came from behind to take a 14-13 lead midway through the third quarter at Jones Friday night, but allowed the Longhorns to score the next 33 points and fell, 46-14.
Jones was knocked out of the Class 2A playoffs by an Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association ruling earlier this week. The OSSAA declared a Longhorn player ineligible, resulting in Jones forfeiting six wins. The move elevated Meeker into the playoffs with a fourth-place finish in District 2A-2.
The Longhorns took out their frustrations on the Wildcat secondary, completing seven touchdown passes. Jones quarterback Michael Lowe threw all of them, finishing 20-of-31 for 305 yards.
Three of the TD passes were caught by Tyler Seabolt, who had a total of seven catches for 118 yards. Cody Vandiver had a pair of touchdown grabs for the Longhorns.
Down 13-0, the Wildcats clawed their way back and took momentum into the locker room with Stephen Bedwell’s 10-yard TD run :28 seconds before halftime.
Bethel took the lead in the third quarter after recovering a fumble at the Jones 16. Four plays later, Clint Duncan scored on a one-yard plunge and Iago Boaventura kicked the extra point that gave the Wildcats a brief 14-13 lead.
Three minutes later, Jones regained the lead when Lowe threw his third touchdown pass.
Bethel (2-8 overall and 2-5 in district) gave up five turnovers — four fumbles and one interception.
The Wildcats had 129 yards of total offense, 116 rushing and 13 passing. Josh Boatman led Bethel with 77 yards on 23 carries.
The Longhorns racked up 454 yards of offense. Jones also had a tough time holding onto the football, fumbling six times and losing three.
