OKLAHOMA CITY — Liberty Academy’s basketball crews dropped two games each in the Oklahoma City Knights Festival over the weekend.
The Lady Eagles are now 3-2 on the season after suffering their first losses — a 63-45 setback Friday to the host Knights, and a 46-35 setback Saturday to Wichita Homeschool’s Lady Warriors.
The Eagles are 1-3 after Friday’s 44-35 loss to the Knights, and Saturday’s 60-46 loss to the Fort Worth THESA (Texas Home Educators Sports Association) Riders.
The Liberty Girls trailed by 10 points after the first quarter of Friday’s encounter, and were behind 39-23 at the half. Charity Fowler led the Lady Eagles’ effort with a double-double performance, netting 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
All but two points of Fowler’s contribution came from three-point range as she connected on seven shots from outside the arch.
As a team, Liberty hit 29 percent of their field goals while the Knights hit 51 percent of theirs.
“They just couldn’t miss,” said Lady Eagles head coach Teresa Fowler.
In Saturday’s match, the Liberty girls led by one after the first quarter but shared a 17-all deadlock with Wichita Homeschool at halftime. The Lady Warriors took charge in the second half, outscoring the Lady Eagles 19-13 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth.
Blair Johnson was Liberty’s only double-digit scorer with 12.
The Liberty boys were limited to single-digit scores in the first and second quarters of Friday’s game, and they trailed the Oklahoma City Knights 21-9 at the break. A late rally came up short as the Eagles outshot their opponents 17-9 in the final eight minutes.
Ellison Evans led Liberty with nine points, and Tanner Fowler contributed eight points and led the team in boards with eight.
The Eagles were down 22-14 after one quarter of Saturday’s game, but had the deficit sliced to one as they went into the half down 29-28. The Riders scored 12 points to Liberty’s seven in the third quarter, and 19 to the Eagles’ 11 in the fourth.
Evans and Monty Roberts put up 12 points apiece for the Eagles.
Liberty Academy will host Destiny Christian Tuesday, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys following.
