The Shawnee Wolves dug an early hole that proved too much to overcome Monday night at the Shawnee High School Performaing Arts and Athletic Center as the Harrah Panthers spoiled homecoming to the tune of 59-50.
Plagued by poor shooting and turnovers, the Wolves scored just six points in the opening quarter and topped that mark, barely, in the second quarter by scoring eight to go into the intermission trailing 27-14.
Senior Taylor Langley scored five points and Grant Barrick added four in the first half for the Wolves.
Harrah, in the third quarter, kept the Wolves at bay with a four-trey effort by Ethan Walton. Walton scored 12 points in the third quarter and finished the contest with a game-high 23 points. He posted six treys during the game.
The Wolves finally found some offense in the second half from junior Terrance McDonald. McDonald scored all 19 of his team-high total in the second half and helped lead a Shawnee charge in the fourth quarter.
The Wolves trailed 45-32 heading into the final quarter. Shawnee cut the deficit to six on two occasions in the quarter, the first coming on a Nick Berry free throw at the 3:51 mark and once again on a Taylor Langley trey with 2:44 left.
The Wolves inched closer with one minute remaining on a McDonald lay-up that cut the advantage to 55-50, but that ended the Wolves’ scoring and Harrah hit four more free throws to close out the game.
Langley finished with 11 points, while Barrick and Dillion Mooreland netted six points each.
With the loss, the Wolves drop to 5-14 and will travel to face Chickasha on Thursday night. The girls game will begin at 6:30 with the boys game to follow.
