WEATHERFORD — Seminole’s No. 16 Chieftains let go an early lead Friday night in falling 34-14 to the host Weatherford Eagles — Class 4A’s top-ranked team — in the first round of the postseason.
This brings Seminole’s 2009 campaign to an end with a 4-7 record, and leaves Weatherford’s undefeated quest intact.
Sophomore quarterback Garrett Clark trotted in from 15 yards out in the first quarter, and Zach MeGee tacked on the PAT kick to give the Chieftains a 7-0 edge, but the Eagles answered and tied it up going into the second as quarterback Jake Barrios notched a 36-yard rushing score.
The hosts then racked up 27 additional points in the second and third quarters before Seminole ended the scoring in the fourth on an 8-yard completion from Clark to Adam Kuehner.
The Chieftains tallied 12 first downs to Weatherford’s 18, and were limited to just 94 yards on 30 rushes. The Eagles rolled out 362 total yards of offense, including 234 on the turf and 128 through the airways.
Clark completed 11 of 21 tosses for 80 yards and a TD, and was pilfered once. Barrios, for Weatherford, completed six of eight passes and rushed for 158 yards on 10 totes.
Seminole’s Chris Wolfe ran for 51 yards on 17 attempts.
