WANETTE — The Asher Lady Indians earned their first season win as the Asher basketball teams double up on host Wanette Tuesday evening.
The Lady Indians moved to 1-3 with a 51-48 triumph, and the Indians secured a 73-60 victory to move to 3-1.
The Lady Indians trailed by three points going into the second quarter, and were down 24-23 at the break before out-gunning the Lady Tigers 28-24 in the second half.
Erin Casey made up for half of Asher’s offense with 26 points, and Summer Wauahdooah pitched in with 10.
Tania Middleton led Wanette with 14, and teammates Robin Horner and Sahara Lambert added 10 apiece.
Asher’s boys led by 12 after one quarter, and held a 40-27 edge at halftime. A late surge by the Tigers allowed them to outscore the guests 20-16 in the final period, but it was too little, too late.
Matt Johnson posted 29 points for the Indians, and Derek Claytor and Damian Doshier added 16 and 10, respectively.
Three Wanette players scored in double figures, beginning with Nick Johnson’s 19 points. Bo Starks added 16, and Tyler Owen contributed 10.
Asher’s teams will go to Tupelo Friday, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 8 p.m. Wanette will go to Calvin and will tip off at the same times.
